Humber College Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning (MA)


MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING between Humber College Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning and Royal Roads University.

This memorandum of understanding constitutes an agreement between Royal Roads University (RRU) and Humber College Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning (Humber College). The participating units at the respective institutions are the School of Communication and Culture at RRU and the Business School and the School of Media Studies and Information Technology at Humber College.

Objective of the Agreement:

RRU agrees that students admitted to the Master of Arts in Professional Communication, who have previously completed a post-graduate certificate at Humber College will receive transfer credit for successfully completed courses as follows:

  • Public Relations Ontario Graduate Certificate, School of Media Studies & Information Technology: Transfer credit for PCOM 633 Business Communication (2 credits) and PCOM 634 Consulting (2 credits)
  • Journalism-Accelerated Ontario Graduate Certificate, School of Media Studies & Information Technology: Transfer credit for PCOM 631 Professional Writing and Publishing (2 credits)
  • Marketing Management Ontario Graduate Certificate, School of Business Information: Transfer credit for PCOM 633 Business Communication (2 credits) and PCOM 634 Consulting (2 credits)

Humber graduates applying for such transfer credit must have met all entrance criteria to the Master of Arts in Professional Communication (MAPC) and space must remain available in the MAPC program. Entrance to all programs at RRU is on a competitive basis. 

As a partner to this agreement, Humber College agrees:

  • to make information about this agreement and the RRU MAPC degree options available to students in its Public Relations, Journalism, and Marketing Management certificate programs;
  • to provide opportunity for representatives of Royal Roads University to visit appropriate forums at Humber College to disseminate information about the RRU MAPC. 

As a partner to the agreement, Royal Roads University agrees:

  • to provide Humber College with updated information about the RRU MAPC program on an annual basis;
  • to notify Humber College with as much lead time as possible about any changes to the MAPC requirements that are anticipated or approved.

Liaison

Implementation of this agreement will be through the Registrar's Office at each institution, in consultation with the appropriate authorities in the respective programs.

Term of the Agreement

This agreement shall be in place for a period of three years commencing January 1, 2010. At the end of this time, the agreement will be subject to review and renewal by Royal Roads University. If there are impediments to renewal, Royal Roads University will notify the transfer partner of the impediments, with the goal of negotiating a new agreement.  Final approval of the agreement will remain with the President of Royal Roads University. 

Royal Roads University retains the right to limit the number of students admitted under this agreement.
