Zabu Vilayil, MA in Human Security and Peacebuilding

Students for Development Internship, Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada

As a Junior Consultant to the UN Development Programme Kenya in the Conflict Prevention and Peace Building Unit, Zab worked in supporting peace structures and identifying gaps within the cohesion of information for early warning of conflict in Kenya.

Zab’s study focused on finding the means to mitigate conflict using more efficient and accurate methods of information gathering, which led to a concept of cohesive information pooling, sourcing and analysis. His study provided recommendations to coordinate with the National Steering Committee in the Office of the President on the development of a National Conflict Early Warning system. The concept was since endorsed and is in development in Kenya.
