Rose Nadon - MA in Tourism Management
The non-traditional idea of achieving a university degree online was introduced to me by a business client who was finishing a degree at Royal Roads University. I came to know two more mature students enrolled at Royal Roads in later months, all with endless compliments about their positive learning experience.
I organized a meeting with Dr. Brian White of the School of Tourism. His gracious welcome, his attentive listening to my life and work accomplishments, his patient reading of my support documentation and his encouragement were greatly appreciated by one who has not been back to school in many years. He encouraged me to aim my sights higher than I had originally envisioned, thus giving me the much needed confidence to apply for the Master of Arts Program in Tourism Management.
He was confident I would fit into the curriculum easily, bring my 32 year hospitality experience (25 years as an airline employee, 8 years as owner of the award-winning The Dutch Dog Bed and Breakfast, New Westminster) to the table in a positive manner for myself and my learner colleagues and become a valued member of the Royal Roads alumni. With his encouragement, I applied.
My application process was then aided by wonderful, responsive staff members in departments of enrollment, finance and admissions, each one ending the phone call or e-mail with ‘Congratulations! Looking forward to meeting you!’ I could not have felt more welcome.
Yes, I have been accepted and start this September. I’m thrilled and honored to be a part of this university team.
