Successful implementation of major organizational changes is the exception rather than the rule. Lesley conducted a literature review on ther elationship between internal communication practices and building motivation for change. The impact of communication practices on both employee resistance and motivation were examined to determine what communication practices could be used by leadership to build motivation and support for change.
This study concluded that communication practices that address both the informational and emotional needs of employees, facilitate dialogue, that are delivered by skilled interpersonal communicators are most effective. The recommendations generated as a result of this study have practical applications for the fields of organizational communication, leadership, and change management.
