Krista Gallagher, MA in Environment and Management
J. Armand Bombardier Canada Graduate Scholarship Social Science and Humanities Research Council of Canada
Gallagher is examining the successful implementation of policy regarding environmental issues. Specifically she is exploring the Lake Simcoe Protection Act and the Lake Simcoe Protection Plan as a case study.
With the academic supervision of Dr. Alice MacGillivray, Gallagher will examine the question of how this environmental issue went from citizen concern to legally binding legislation when so many other environmental concerns are not made into legislation. She will conduct interviews with numerous stakeholders involved in the creation of the Act. This research will add to the body of literature on the Lake Simcoe Protection Act and environmental policy implementation. It will give insight into what is required for a successful implementation process and offer recommendations for future policy creation.
