Julie Lafleche, MA in Human Security and Peacebuilding
J. Armand Bombardier Canada Graduate Scholarship Master’s, Social Science and Humanities Research Council of Canada, Students for Development Internship, Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada
Supervised by Dr. Alejandro Palacios, Julie researched the accessibility of adult basic education opportunities provided by Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) to adults and out-of-school youth living in Dzaleka Refugee Camp in Malawi.
The study allowed for a better understanding of the educational opportunities to which members of these communities have access, and in particular helped to identify any impediments to accessing these opportunities. Furthermore, the findings assisted JRS in developing interventions to help ensure that accessibility to adult basic education does not reinforce existing socioeconomic inequalities.
