Isaac Yuen, MA in Environmental Education and Communication

J. Armand Bombardier Canada Graduate Scholarship, Social Science and Humanities Research Council of Canada

Yuen is exploring interactions at Urban farmers’ markets and the effects of these interactions on awareness of food sustainability issues and how experiences at the market can drive the changes necessary for a more sustainable food system. With the supervision of Dr. Liza Ireland, he will conduct an ethnographical study on the participants of the Vancouver Winter Farmers’ Markets.

To explore what an urban farmers’ market is, how it works, and the histories and motivations of the various participants, including customers, vendors, and organizers, he will gather data through unobtrusive observation, clipboard surveys, and semi-structured interviews.
