The International Hotel Management program at Royal Roads University helped me change my life to something better and made me remember a dream that I had forgotten about for many years.
The BA International Hotel Management program at Royal Roads University helped me transition from one distinct life path to another.
I had been struggling in a BCom program in Manitoba and did not enjoy several of the courses. Subsequently, I dropped out and began working full-time in the hospitality industry. Even though I enjoyed my line of work, I never saw hospitality as a viable career option. This program has changed my view.
I was very excited about the flexible admissions process which not only looked at my previous post-secondary experience, but also at the wealth of knowledge I had gained from 10 years in the service industry. Ultimately, when I was accepted I knew this program would re-route my life in a better direction.
During my second term in school I found that I had some extra time available and that I needed to earn some income to supplement my savings from the previous year; so I applied for a position at a local luxury boutique hotel that was offered to Royal Roads University students. I got the job and had exceptional experiences and learning opportunities that supplemented my in-class learning. Also, the ability to make connections in the local business market was a huge bonus. Local perception of BA International Hotel Management program is extremely positive which was nice to see even before I had finished the program.
I am happy to report that I am now on the way to reaching my goal of managing a seasonal ski resort hotel. I will be spending my internship in Australia working at a small property in Perisher Blue for their winter ski season. I am excited to see what opportunities await me when I return to Canada.
