RRU Tops 20 Business Schools in International Competition
Victoria - Four Royal Roads University students enrolled in the Bachelor of Commerce program have been awarded a coveted trophy following their win at an intense week-long competition at Concordia University in Montreal.
Using knowledge and skills acquired in the classroom along with rigorous training to analyse and evaluate four real-world business problems, Siobhan McManus, Clarence deSilva, Evan Willms and Thomas Schertzer topped 19 other teams at the annual John Molson Undergraduate Case Competition held Feb. 21 - Feb. 27.
Fellow competitors were students from renowned business schools across Canada and around the world. These included Queen's University, the University of British Columbia, Carleton University, Memorial University and the University of Ottawa along with Purdue University, Michigan State University, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and Singapore Management University.
"This notable success bears witness to the fact that Royal Roads University leads the country when it comes to the level of academic challenge our faculty give our students, and the active and experiential learning that is at the core of our teaching philosophy," said Thomas Chase, vice-president academic and provost at Royal Roads University. "We are very proud of these students and credit this superb competitive result to their talent and hard work."
Royal Roads University faculty advisor Don Prescott and team coach Lane Sherman helped prepare the students for the competition.
"It was a strong field but our students excelled from the beginning and impressed the judges, the participants and the organizers," said Sherman. "In fact, their winning business analysis about a real-world Via Rail case so impressed the judges that the team has been invited back to Montreal to make their presentation to VIA's executive."
Royal Roads University will host its own International Undergraduate Case Competition March 18 to 20 with teams from across Canada, the United States and Mexico expected to participate.
Established by the Province of British Columbia in 1995 specifically to deliver quality applied and professional programs to advance professionals in the workplace, Royal Roads University blends online and on-campus learning with current, real-world relevance for graduate and undergraduate, certificates, diplomas, executive and custom education.
