RRU president part of Canadian delegation to India
As reported in the Vancouver Sun last week, the Association of Universities and Colleges in Canada is sponsoring a trip by 15 university presidents from across Canada to India as part of a government of Canada initiative to support stronger education and business ties with the third largest economy in Asia (measured by GDP). Royal Roads president Allan Cahoon will be in Delhi from Nov. 8 to 14. It is the largest delegation of Canadian university presidents ever officially assembled for such a trip. The goal of the seven-day mission is to find new ways for Canadian and Indian universities to work together, while creating awareness of Canada in the Indian subcontinent.

Sally Armstrong to address the struggle of women in Afghanistan
Human rights activist and documentary filmmaker Sally Armstrong will be at Royal Roads University on Tuesday, Nov. 9 at 8:30 a.m. in the Hatley Castle Drawing Room to address a class of students from the Master's in Human Security and Peace Building about the plight of women living in war-torn Afghanistan in the context of international obligations. The recipient of numerous awards and honours, including an honorary degree from Royal Roads University in 2000, Armstrong is among the most respected people fighting for the rights of women around the world. Others honoured by the Caring Institute this year include cyclist and cancer survivor Lance Armstrong and former presidential candidate Senator Bob Dole. Fluevog social media guru to address marketing students at Royal Roads
Stephen Bailey has embraced the opportunities found in social networking and crowd- sourcing, helping the Fluevog brand catch the attention of Fast Company (one of North America's most influential marketing and communications magazines), for its innovative approach to connecting a creative brand with a creative engagement strategy. A McGill business graduate, Bailey has several years under his belt as a marketing consultant for companies such as Nintendo, Bell, VanCity and MTS. On Friday, Nov. 19, from noon to 1 p.m. in the Mews Conference Centre he will engage business students at Royal Roads and walk them through the innovative strategy that's turning heads, heels and soles in John Fluevog's direction.

RRU Business students awarded for vision and action at Royal Roads
The family of late Edmonton entrepreneur Eric C. Douglass established an award for business students who illustrate the attributes that made him a success in business and in life. At convocation last week four business students were given these $4,000 awards upon graduating from the Bachelor of Commerce program. Ian Warner, Amy McQuaid, Caleb Del Begio, and Hussein Manji all illustrated the entrepreneurial spirit of Douglass through the businesses they launched while completing their degrees. Warner launched a DJ service, McQuaid developed a hair salon, Del Begio started a gutter and window cleaning service and Manji was noted for his work in starting a cellular phone accessories business.
