Victoria, B.C. - Royal Roads University and the Canadian Medical Association have agreed to collaborate on leadership development and research aimed at supporting physicians across Canada.

"Leadership capacity is something we've been developing with organizations and executives for more than a decade," said Zoe Macleod, director of the Centre for Applied Leadership and Management at Royal Roads University. "Our success in working with the Canadian healthcare sector makes this partnership with CMA a natural for us."

Under the agreement, Royal Roads University will collaborate with the Canadian Medical Association and provide services that enhance the quality of Canadian doctors as leaders across the country. Royal Roads University will also assist the Canadian Medical Association to enhance their current suite of leadership programs by investigating and developing the most effective blended learning models for leadership development. The goal is to make leadership education accessible to any Canadian Medical Association members seeking this kind of professional development.

"Royal Roads University brings an immense amount of knowledge and experience to the table when it comes to developing leadership capacity in organizations," said Don Briscoe, director of leadership and professional development at the Canadian Medical Association. "This agreement represents a meaningful collaboration that will benefit healthcare across Canada."

The Canadian Medical Association is also establishing a credential process for its leadership development programs that will allow physicians who complete a full suite of Physician Management Institute programs to achieve recognition for that achievement and ladder into a graduate certificate or degree program at Royal Roads University. The Canadian Medical Association and Royal Roads University are also exploring graduate level programming in physician leadership.

Royal Roads University was established by the Province of British Columbia in 1995 specifically to deliver quality applied and professional programs to advance professionals in the workplace. The university blends online and on-campus learning with current, real-world relevance for doctorate, graduate and undergraduate, certificates, diplomas, executive and custom education.
