San Francisco, CA/Victoria, B.C. - The International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) has partnered with Royal Roads University in Victoria, British Columbia to offer an Executive Accreditation Seminar. The seminar, to be held March 21-26, 2010 at the university's historic oceanfront campus, is designed for senior communications professionals interested in an approach to accreditation responsive to their strategic ability and leadership development needs.  The seminar represents a new pathway to IABC's internationally recognized Accredited Business Communicator (ABC) credential and a significant collaboration between IABC and a post-secondary institution.

"The seminar models a sophisticated approach to the ABC through a dynamic and peer-interactive experience designed for the seasoned practitioner" said Julie Freeman, President of IABC.

Participants in the seminar prepare for and are tested in the elements of the ABC credential, the global standard of professional achievement for business communicators. The seminar will be led by a leadership professor from RRU and two IABC-selected instructors with extensive experience in academic communication scholarship and professional practice. Through a combination of a strategic portfolio, written and oral assessment, and a problem-solving "Communication Leadership Challenge" in which participants consult with a local organization in need of communications advice, the participants will be put through an accreditation experience designed for senior communication professionals.

"This program will incorporate successful exercises we've modeled, such as a group consulting project for a real organization," said Steve Grundy, associate vice-president and chief information officer for Royal Roads University. "These will create value for the participants and bring a fresh perspective to the accreditation process."

The seminar is a joint project of IABC and RRU's Centre for Applied Leadership and Management and School of Communication and Culture. Royal Roads University is a public university created to serve working professionals. The seminar project is consistent with the University's tradition of innovation in higher education and its mandate to offer applied and professional programs through on-campus and online delivery.

"The Executive Accreditation Seminar recognizes the significant experience that senior communicators have, and is tailored to their needs," says Edward Lundquist, ABC, chair of the IABC Accreditation Council. "This is one of several new programs we have underway to make accreditation accessible to communicators who want to measure themselves against the global standard."
