Collaborative review results in revisions to MA in Leadership
Victoria, B.C. - The Faculty of Social and Applied Sciences at Royal Roads University is pleased to announce that in 2011 it will be offering an MA in Leadership that is more attractive than ever for working professionals across Canada.
Following recommendations from a study that included an assessment of current and future markets as well as a collaborative review by a group of alumni, faculty, staff and current students, the university has streamlined the delivery of this flagship program and revised its curriculum.
"In addition to making the MA in Leadership more accessible to applicants outside the Victoria area, the revisions are designed to respond to the needs of a new generation of professionals and their employers," says Thomas Chase, PhD, vice-president (academic) at Royal Roads University.
Specifically, the revisions reduce residency times; provide a greater choice of electives; and offer more opportunities for students to specialize in areas such as change management, innovation, coaching, sustainability and philanthropy.
Prior to introduction of a more harmonized delivery model, students in the MA in Leadership program and those in the MA in Leadership program with a specialization in Health completed similar courses that were delivered in completely different ways.
"We know there is tremendous opportunity for growth in this program," says Chase. "Many of our students tell us they didn't even look at alternate programs and alumni - more than 2000 across the country - describe the program not only as a unique learning experience but as a transformational event in their lives."
Students in the revised MA in Leadership program will, for the first time, have the option to write a thesis or complete an Organizational Leadership Project. Learning outcomes, admission requirements and other critical elements of the program that have made it so successful - and differentiated it in the marketplace - remain the same.
The application deadline is December 17, 2010.
