Stephen Grundy earned his PhD in chemistry from the University of Sheffield in the United Kingdom. His research interests range from synthetic chemistry to environmental science. He has travelled extensively in the Arctic and the West Coast regions of Canada as a field scientist with a specialization in contaminant transport mechanisms. He was jointly responsible for the initial education plan at Royal Roads University and since 1995 has held the following positions: Vice-President, Academic (acting), core faculty member and dean. He is now Vice-President Academic and Provost.
During his tenure, Grundy was instrumental in developing and implementing one of the most aggressive environmental sustainability plans in the post-secondary sector. That plan recently earned Royal Roads a silver rating from the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education. As an academic leader he has taken responsibility for the development and implementation of new academic programs. He has a solid reputation for securing research dollars to support innovative projects in pollutant transport.
He is currently a member of the National Steering Committee for the Canadian Centre for Environmental Education, as well as a director with Virtual School Society of British Columbia and a director and member of the executive committee with BCNet.
