Joshua Guilar's work focuses on dialogic and interpersonal communication, especially within organizational learning.

A native of Toronto, Guilar earned a doctorate in organizational communication at the University of Oregon. He earned his bachelor and master’s degrees from Oregon State University. Guilar managed a corporate university for Hewlett Packard’s largest business unit, directing training and development strategies there. His most recent book is The Power of Authenticity published by Devorss.

Guilar's teaching focuses on dialogue. He sees learning as an encounter between people and content. People tend to prioritize the content of a course according to its relevance to them, and for this reason Guilar tries to make his teaching enjoyable and relevant to the lives of the learners in his classes.

Accolades and distinctions:

  • 2007 – Best Paper, Western Communication Association Conference, Intercultural Communication
  • 1990 - Best Debut Paper, Western Communication Association Conference
  • 1989 - Jewett Fund Award, University of Oregon
