Dennis Ray is a professor of international business and entrepreneurship and teaches global business environment courses in the B. Comm. and MBA programs. He is also developing an international entrepreneurial stream within the MBA program.
Ray holds a doctorate in international relations and economics from the Graduate School of International Studies at the University of Denver. He conducted post-doctoral studies in Chinese studies at the University of California at Berkeley. His focus was Chinese economic development strategies and overseas Chinese entrepreneurs. He also conducted field work in Singapore.
Ray taught international entrepreneurship and new venture development at the University of Calgary in 1987, presented a pioneering paper on international venture development in 1989, and taught the first executive international MBA program while at Pepperdine University. In 1988 he co-edited a United Nations publication entitled Entrepreneurship and Economic Development with renowned Harvard economist Harvey Leibenstein.
Ray was named a British Council Scholar at the University of Stirling and was the 2006 Hall-Fulbright Distinguished Professor of Entrepreneurship in Bulgaria and Romania. He created the first university-based global technology incubator, called the Global Business Accelerator, at the University of Texas at Austin in 1999.
Ray has lived, taught or conducted research in the Netherlands, Japan, Singapore, Vietnam and New Zealand.
