Dr. Connie Carter is Professor of Law in the Faculty of Management at Royal Roads University. She is also an Adjunct Professor at the University of Victoria, B.C. and the Grenoble Graduate School of Business in France. Connie teaches courses in business law, corporate governance and Chinese commercial law. She has taught International Trade, Intellectual Property, and EU Competition Law at universities in Europe and Asia.
Connie earned her LLB and PhD degrees in Law at the University of London, England. Her first degree, a B.Ed., is from the University of Cambridge. She was called to the Bar at Lincoln's Inn, London. While practicing law, Connie also taught Intellectual Property on the intercollegiate LLM degree programme at the University of London.
Before joining Royal Roads, Connie spent five years in China: partly as Professor of Law at Xiamen University, partly as Director of Administration & HR at a German-owned manufacturer of heavy machinery in Xiamen. Connie has operated her own business consultancy companies advising on international trade, foreign direct investment, industrial branding, technology transfer and intellectual property in Europe and Asia.
Connie's publications include Special Economic Zones in Asian Market Economies (Routledge 2011, co-edited with Andrew Harding); IP Courts in China (2009); Law and Economic Development in Singapore, (Kluwer Law 2002), and Fighting Fakes in China: The Legal Protection of Trademarks and Brands in the PRC, IP Institute, London (1999).
Her research interests include Special Economic Zones (SEZs), law and development, corporate governance, corporate social responsibility and intellectual property in China.
