Course Description:

DEMN 575: In this course, students study various qualitative and quantitative research methodologies that can be used to learn more about and improve the professional's ability to understand, predict, prevent, manage, mitigate and recover from natural and human-induced disasters and emergencies. Topics include research design, conducting a literature review, research question and hypothesis formulation, problems of causality, data collection, analysis, and presentation, research ethics and report writing. Students review field, participatory and action research, and rapid appraisal. This course prepares students to contribute to the development of the disaster and emergency management field (3 credits)
