Managing Protected Areas and Assets

Course Description:

TRMN 602*: Focuses on the complexities involved in managing protected natural areas and cultural/heritage assets that have tourist appeal are analyzed along with the theoretical debates about protection of natural and cultural assets. Consideration of past and current practices related to the mitigation of tourism impacts are examined along with approaches to cultural and natural resource inventory using Geographical Information Systems. Community stakeholder engagement in protected areas and assets decision making, legislated responsibility versus due diligence in resource protection, ethical dilemmas encountered in unprotected places and with cultural assets are examined.(3 credits)
