Disaster Management and Community Resilience

Course Description:

DEMN 530*:  Examines conceptual and theoretical approaches to the study of disaster and emergency management. Emphasizes management perspectives and citizen engagement and community capacity building; risk communications; and sustainable mitigation and recovery. Explores the role of the emergency manager in building community capacity, and considers ways to effectively engage citizens in all aspects of disaster and emergency management. Covers leadership and decision-making demands on managers during disaster events. (3 credits)

*pre-requisite DEMN 520 or approval of the Program Head
