Convocation honours ski industry titan and influential economist

Royal Roads University honoured Dr. Fan Gang, one of China's most influential economists, and Jimmie Spencer, one of Canada's foremost ski industry leaders, with honorary degrees, Doctor of Laws. Royal BC Museum CEO Pauline Rafferty received the Chancellor's Community Recognition Award.

Spring convocation also honoured 688 students from degree and certificate programs in the Faculty of Social and Applied Sciences and the Faculty of Management and the Centre for Applied Leadership and Management.

Convocation was hosted at the Royal Theatre, Victoria, B.C. The morning ceremony was at 9:30 a.m. and the afternoon ceremony was at 1:30 p.m.

Honorary Degree Recipient
As one of China’s most influential economists, Prof. FAN, Gang’s insights are instrumental to the understanding of China’s economy and its impact on the rest of the world.

Before becoming one of Canada’s foremost ski industry leaders, James (Jimmie) Spencer had a professional career as an officer in the British Army for 33 years.
Chancellor's Community Recognition Award Recipient
Pauline Rafferty has brought a mix of knowledge, leadership skill and experience to her roles with the Royal BC Museum since 1992.
