Peter Robinson

Chancellor of Royal Roads University

Peter Robinson is currently the Chief Executive Officer of Mountain Equipment Co-op, Canada's largest outdoor equipment retailer.  Effective January 2008, he will assume the position of CEO of the David Suzuki Foundation, an internationally respected science-based organization working to protect the balance of nature and quality of life.

Robinson began his career working as a park ranger in wilderness areas throughout British Columbia, where he was twice decorated for bravery by the Governor General of Canada. He became CEO of Mountain Equipment Co-op in May 2000, prior to which he was CEO of BC Housing, a provincial crown corporation.

Robinson also does ongoing humanitarian work, including monitoring prison conditions with the International Red Cross in Rwanda in 1998 and leading a team that monitors detained asylum seekers in Canada.

Robinson holds a Master of Arts in Conflict Analysis and Management from Royal Roads University and a Bachelor of Arts in Geography from Simon Fraser University, as well as diplomas in Community Economic Development and Fish and Wildlife Management. An outdoors enthusiast, Peter spends as much time as he can in the Coast Mountains or kayaking among the Gulf Islands.

Robinson joined the Royal Roads University Board of Governors in June, 2004 as one of two board-appointed members. He was elected Chair of the board effective Oct. 20, 2007. As Chair, he also becomes the Chancellor of Royal Roads University, the position to which he is formally installed at the morning convocation ceremony Nov. 2, 2007.

Peter Robinson is an exceptional leader and an influential humanitarian.
