Flexible Admission
Applicants who do not have the formal academic education to qualify for admission may be assessed on the basis of both their formal education and their informal learning, in accordance with the Flexible Admission Policy at Royal Roads University. This includes applicants with a complex learning history and for whom documenting their learning is either difficult or complex.

The objective in all cases is to recognize evidence of prior learning accomplishments and to assure a high probability of successful program completion for both the students and the University. Applicants must show evidence of having sufficient knowledge, skills and abilities to complete a demanding academic course of study.
Admission through Flexible Admission does not imply that a student has achieved the equivalent of a formal credential, such as a diploma or undergraduate degree.
Flexible Admission applicants who do not meet the formal admission requirements may also be required to:
- provide additional Letter(s) of Reference;
- provide a portfolio containing evidence of learning already achieved;
- demonstrate competence before an objective observer;
- write an examination and test;
- complete a questionnaire;
- appear for an interview by telephone or in person;
- take a qualifying course;
- provide an MPRR or equivalent (applies to Canadian military personnel/veterans); and/or
- provide additional documentation as may be required to adjudicate the application and reach a decision regarding admission.
In addition, applicants may be granted exemptions and/or be required to meet specific conditions for admission on a case by case basis.
